Adam Pertman, Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, has announced that Kinship Center will be the first awardee of a new annual Spotlight Award created to recognize organizations that exemplify the Institute’s goals and values.

The award will be presented at the Institute’s annual “Celebrating…Our Families, Our Children” event in Los Angeles on October 13, 2011. Kinship Center is being honored for the quality and effectiveness of its adoption, foster care, kinship care, and children’s and family mental health programs, and for its model education for parents and professionals.

The Evan B. Donaldson Institute, founded in 1996, is a national not-for-profit organization devoted to improving adoption policy and practice. The Adoption Institute works every day to carry out its unique mission: to provide leadership that improves laws, policies, and practices – through research, education, and advocacy – in order to better the lives of everyone touched by adoption.

Among the many ways the Institute achieves its goals are by reducing barriers that impede the adoption of children who need permanent, loving families; providing the media with a trusted source of information; offering legislators and policy-makers reliable research and practical perspectives to improve laws, policies and practices; and educating and supporting adoptive families.

The Institute’s Executive Director Adam Pertman is a former Pulitzer-nominated journalist, Associate Editor of Adoption Quarterly, the premier research journal dealing with adoption and foster care, and author of Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families – and America, reviewed as the most important book ever written on the subject.

Also honored at the celebration event will be longtime supporters Sue Naegle (President of HBO Entertainment) and Dana Gould (comedian and writer) for the couple’s work on behalf of adoptive families.

Kinship Center is honored to be named as the recipient of the first Spotlight Award given by this national nonprofit that is the pre-eminent research, policy and education organization in its field.
