The public is invited to a special free June 2011 parent training series to be held at Kinship Center’s Education Center in Salinas.

Parenting children who have experienced trauma and loss is often a bewildering experience – sometimes leaving parents wondering where to turn.  Kinship Center’s new series: Parenting Children who have Experienced Trauma and Loss provides tools, techniques and information to help parents effectively parent these children. This series aids parents in understanding how their children are impacted emotionally and developmentally when trauma and loss have been part of their experience.

Topics covered will include the Seven Core Issues in Adoption, the power of caregiver claiming behavior, the art and science of attachment, understanding and parenting children who have been abused, and the impacts and strategies for parenting children who were drug and alcohol exposed prenatally. Parents who have attended this training series have said that the understanding and tools they gained from the classes has changed their relationships with their children in very positive ways.  Many parents have felt informed and empowered to advocate for their children in school settings where they have felt powerless before.  In their own words…

“Hearing the stories from other parents brought a great sense of familiarity and perspective.  I loved it.”  “We had no idea how much our own upbringing impacted how we parent our children.”  “It helped us to remember his needs and to work for his attachment and security in the day to day of being a parent.”

This seven session series will be offered on June 13, 14, 15, 16 and June 21, 22, 23.  Classes will run from 9am to noon at Kinship Center, 124 River Road in Salinas, CA  93908.  For more information or to register, please call Call Daisy Puente at (831) 4554770.
