November is National Adoption Awareness Month!

The holiday season is almost upon us and the impending holidays turn our thoughts to family gatherings.  For Kinship Center, kick starting the festivities is National Adoption Awareness Month all throughout November.  For the many children who have been adopted this year, this will be the first time that they will experience the holiday season in the warmth and love of a permanent family.

Since 1984, Kinship Center’s guiding belief has been that every child deserves a safe, loving family.  From newborns to older children, from medically fragile to larger siblings groups, Kinship Center has continued to work nonstop to ensure that more children find their ‘forever families’.

Nancy Murphy, Kinship Center’s Director of Placement Programs in Northern California recalls the countless families that she has had the privilege of working with over the years.  In fact during the month of November, she will be adding two more families to that list.

“These families are thrilled to finalize their adoptions.  They were part of our Fost-Adopt program, where we place children directly in the home of the family that intends to adopt them; saving the child from bouncing around from one foster home to another.”

Murphy continued, “On the other hand we currently have an eager group of prospective adoptive parents that are in the midst of taking our nine week adoption prep course.  This course ensures a successful and more positive adoption experience for the entire family.”

“The love and dedication that I see in these adoptive families is incredible. These families inspire me every day.” affirmed Murphy.  “I’ve seen families sit in the hospital day after day caring for a medically fragile child while they waited for their adoption to be finalized.  I’ve had parents tell me how their birth children expressed how happy they were to have their new brother and sister in the family.  I’ve worked with parents who adopt and come back to adopt again.  It’s pretty remarkable.”
