Three Things You Should Know About Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

There are many reasons why more and more grandparents (or another family member) are raising their grandchildren. The Boomer is a section of the Fox Business website focused on “adults nearing retirement age and those already in their “golden years.” Today’s article featured kinship caregivers, and here are three things you should know about these grandparents who are raising their grandchildren:

  1. 1 in 4 grandparents raising children have a disability.
  2. According to the 2010 US Census, 4.9 million children (7%) under the age of 18 is living in a grandparent-headed household.
  3. The AARP website has resources, including support groups, for grandparents raising children.
